Open Burning

All open burning (any ember-emitting fire) requires a burn permit.

This includes:

  • wood-burning fire pits (metal store-bought, in-ground, or otherwise)

  • campfires

  • chiminea fires

  • slash burning

  • all explosives

  • outdoor welding or hot work

  • all fireworks

  • prescribed burning of fence lines or rows, fields or rangelands

Trash burning is NOT allowed in Park County. No burning outdoors of any kind is allowed during a county burn ban.

  3. Permits are issued annually and expire December 31st of year of purchase.

For campfires:

  1. Keep fires under 3' in diameter and 3' high and follow burn permit guidelines.

  2. Before you burn, report the burn to Platte Canyon Fire.

For slash burns:

Slash piles are those not in designated pits or burn areas.

  2. Slash burning is prohibited May 1–September 30, regardless of the amount of snow.

  3. Before you burn, report the burn to Platte Canyon Fire.
